Reese Dance Concert Costumes

Costumes

This is arguably the best part of the dance year!!  Costumes have started to arrive and will be handed out in due course. As you know, each month you have been paying monthly costume installment. Total amounts have been calculated and final costume balances will be posted and due by November 15th. A statement will be sent to those with a balance outstanding.

Costumes are to be brought to Photo day & Concert day. A full costume check list, along with a picture of the costume are listed under “Costumes” in the Parent Portal to help you stay organised! Print them out and attach to your costume garment bags to help your child and helpers keep things in order.  Please note that Shoes and Tights are not included in your costume fee.  These are available to purchase at the studio.  These items are in high demand at this time of the year.  Please order early to allow for ordering and shipping.

Please note that while all students are measured and sized for costumes, sizes can differ from costume to costume. We use the sizing charts provided by the companies, however these are just a guide.

Caring for your Costumes

When washing your costumes, please ensure they are washed in cold water only on a gentle cycle, preferably using a lingerie wash-bag to ensure that they are not damaged. Costumes should not be tumble-dried, and take care not to over-expose them to direct sunlight.

Any costumes with sequins or embellishments must be hand washed in cold water.

Shoes & Tights

- Ballet students will require pink ballet shoes and pink ballet tights. This excludes our Mini Program students, they will stay in their Tan tights for all dances.

- Tap students will require tan tap shoes with buckles and Tan Transition tights. Boys require black tap shoes with laces and black socks.

- Jazz students will require tan jazz shoes and Tan Transition tights.

- Hip Hop students will require White Sneakers with a white sole.

- Lyrical students will wear Hanami Pirouette (Canvas) Turning Shoes in nude and tan convertible tights.

- Contemporary students will wear tan convertible tights and no shoes.

- Acrobatics students will wear tan convertible tight and no shoes.

If wearing underwear it must be skin-coloured and must not be visible beneath your child’s costume. It is recommended that all students have spare tights in their concert bag.

All shoes and tights are to be purchased from the studio office.

Hair & Makeup

In previous years, students have purchased our Studio Make Up Kit to use for the concert. This has made it easy for parents and kept everyone looking uniform. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get the items to us. This is something I will continue to work on. In the meantime, below is the list of colours that are needed. This is for all students.

Make Up Requirements:

  • Foundation - Colour matched to your child

  • Eyeshadow - Neutral tones of Brown and Bronze. I suggest getting the ELF Bite-Size Eyeshadow Palette in the colour Cream and Sugar. It can purchased from Kmart for about $6.50

  • Blush - Pink

  • Lips - Red

  • Eyeliner and Mascara - Black

We have a short Makeup tutorial uploaded to our Parent Portal to give you an idea of how the eyeshadow is to be done. The link is below.

Makeup Tutorial

All Students: Hair is in a low ponytail with a centre part. Hair must be neatly slicked with gel and hairspray (no flyaway bits please). If your child only does ballet they will need their hair in a low bun. Seniors can wear false lashes if they would like to.

Boys: We require the boys to have their hair neatly styled with gel and hairspray. If they are okay to do so, they should also wear foundation and or a bronzer on their face. The stage lights do wash out the colour from the face so this would stop them from looking very pale on stage.

Reese Dance Photo Day

Reese Dance Photo Day - 17th November 2023

We look forward taking snaps of our dancers to create some wonderful keepsakes. These photos will be part of the Media Package (see Concert Levy tab for details).  Photo day will take place at the studio on 17th November 2023 and will involve all of our hardworking dancers. Performers will be photographed in full costume with hair and make-up done just as they would have for the show.  Each child will have an Individual photo and a Group photo taken in each of their costumes.  Please refer to the Photo Day Timetable that has been emailed out for your child’s scheduled time.

Just like normal dance days, students will be dropped off at the front of the studio and parents will collect their child a the end of their photo session. A select group of teachers and helpers will be on hand to help the students change their costumes. Please see the following guidelines:

Before Photo Day

- Ensure you have all of the following essential items;

  • Required Dance Shoes

  • Tan Tights - Girls (Getting a pair and a spare is a good idea!)

  • Black Dance Socks - Boys

These items are available for purchase at the office. Please name everything clearly.

- Costumes should be on hangers and protected by a garment bag. These are available for purchase at the office. Please name all costumes, accessories and shoes clearly.

- Don’t forget to use the costume lists and photos in the portal. It is an excellent way to make sure you don’t forget anything!

On Photo Day

- Drop your child off at the studio with hair and make up done and tights on.

- Students will be taken to Studio 3 to set up. If a child has a large amount of costumes, a parent will be allowed in briefly to help them set up if necessary. There will be teachers and helpers to assist our younger students to change where needed.

- Students will be brought back out by our teachers and helpers once they are finished.

REESE DANCE PHOTO DAY TIMETABLE

Pre-Show Rehearsals

We have been practicing our stage entrances and exists in class and we have our special Ready Set Dance star spacers to tell us where to stand. This means we do not need a stage rehearsal!

Should anything change an email will be sent to each class with rehearsal details.

Concert Tickets

All of the ticketing is handled by the Logan Entertainment Centre and will be listed under Reese Dance on their website. As we have 3 shows taking place on Concert Day, it has caused some confusion and people have purchased tickets to the wrong show in the past. Reese Dance - Concert Procedures

As always, the safety of our dance family is our #1 priority. When students arrive at the concert venue they are to be checked in by a parent or guardian, and must be checked out when it is time to leave. In an effort to streamline this process our Staff will check students in and out online and will be on hand at all check in points to assist you. If your child has any medical conditions that may require attention whilst in our care or are carrying any medication with them, please notify our supervisors when you check in. The check in area is next to the LEC front entrance. There will be a check in point for each age group, please check signs when you arrive.

Please have your child arrive with hair and makeup done, with tights on ready to change into their first costume.

Students are not permitted to leave the venue while the concert is running. No student is to leave the backstage area during interval.

There will be a short safety induction that all staff, volunteers and students must attend. The students will wait in a designated area until everyone has arrived and the LEC Staff have conducted a Safety Induction. Then we will allow the students into their allocated dressing rooms.

Only Reese Dance staff and registered parent volunteers are permitted backstage. If you would like to volunteer at our morning Ready Set Dance concert please email info@reesedance.com.au. Volunteers receive 1 free ticket to their child’s show!

Private videography and photography is strictly prohibited as we will have professionals attending on the day to provide these services for us leaving you free to sit back and enjoy the show in the moment! Please note that child safety laws prohibit photos to be taken inside the dressing rooms.

What to bring

All children must bring a clearly labelled bag with extra hair spray, gel, hair elastics, bobby pins, bun net and bun pins and safety pins. Each dancer will need these things backstage. I have noticed more and more students not bringing these things and relying on others when the need arises. It is important for each student to have their own supplies. Please ensure any medication required is packed and clearly labelled with instructions and handed to a volunteer.

Your child’s makeup must also be packed and clearly labelled as well as their dance shoes, tights, socks and dance underwear. Don’t forget your costumes, too! These are best hung on coat hangers and protected in a costume bag that is clearly labelled. If you have a portable costume rack, please bring it as hanging space is quite limited.

Minis (Prep & Grade 1) students are encouraged to bring a clothes basket with a photo of them on it and their name. Some of our volunteers do not know all the performers names so this makes it easier for them to be able to find your child’s belongings.

FOOD AND DRINK - Costumes are easily ruined by food and drink stains. Students are not permitted to leave backstage area so please pack enough food and drink for the entire time. It is important they have something nutritious to keep their energy up as well as something that won’t stain – this means NO fast food, messy snacks and chips, etc.. NO nuts or nut products. They also need to bring A LOT of labelled water – NO soft drink, cordial, poppers or juice as it stains the costumes. This is for both rehearsals and concert.

If students would like to bring something to play with while they are waiting that is fine. Please no felt pens or crayons and remember to name everything! Please try not to bring anything valuable, especially electronic devices. Our studio and the venue will take no responsibility if an item is damaged, misplaced, lost or stolen.

Our concert will be photographed and taped by professionals who have the correct licenses to do so. For copyright and child safety reasons, we do not allow any photographs or video to be taken during the show by anyone other than our contracted professionals. The Logan Entertainment Centre Staff will ask you to stop and delete any files if you take video or photos.

Gifts & Merch

There’s a special tradition in the dance world—one that celebrates the hard work, dedication, and joy that every dancer brings to the stage. After a performance, it’s customary to congratulate dancers with a small gift, a heartfelt token that shows just how proud we are of their efforts.

We’re excited to offer a range of fantastic gifts at our merch table on concert day, making it easy to pick out something memorable. To ensure you don’t miss out on their favorite items, pre-orders will be available soon (link to come!). With Christmas around the corner, these gifts make perfect stocking stuffers.

Got family members asking for Christmas ideas? A Reese Dance gift card is the perfect answer! It’s not just a gift—it’s an investment in their passion. Gift cards can go towards uniforms, shoes, dance fees, basically all the things your dancer needs, making it easy for family to support them in doing what they love. Plus, it’s a gift they’ll truly appreciate long after the holiday season.
